High intensity LED lights replaced all of the metal halide lights reducing energy consumption by 75%. This upgrade was made available through grant funds made available through the US Department of Energy.
Empire tree thinning: The Tribe continues to thin trees in areas that were not treated with the ARRA funding from the previous years project .
GSA Surplus equipment: The Tribe acquired a 5 yard dump truck, a Freightliner tractor and an 80 ton low boy. The tribe is currently offering several pieces of equipment that are no longer utilized in the program. This equipment is listed in the Tribal newspaper to all tribal members interested in placing a closed bid.
Transportation Plan Update: (ongoing)
Road Inventory: (in process)
Miluk Drive Extension & Development: This project is currently completed. The Tribe is in negotiation for sanitary services with an intergovernmental agreement with the Charleston Sanitary District. The council has asked planning to prepare more information on the potential distribution of these developed lots. The cost of each lot has yet to be determined. A potential lottery will be held for interested Tribal members wishing to purchase a lot. The lots are on hold pending a Comprehensive Land Use Plan by the tribal planner.
Woody Biomass Utilization: this project is starting its third and final grant year. Tribal member Duke Summers has been the primary operator of this project. He is responsible for transporting slash from various logging sites to the tribe’s leased property in Remote, Oregon on Hwy 42. This site is the storage site for the slash until it becomes filled. A grinder is contracted to grind the material into hog fuel. The hog fuel is loaded and transported to Roseburg Forest Products in Dillard Oregon for use at their mill for steam and power generation. The Tribe has previously taken advantage of the Federal governments BCAP and State subsidies to offset costs for this project.
Cranberry Farms: CEDCO’s Board of Directors made the decision to cease all cranberry operations as a business venture in February 2011. PCRES was tasked to make an interim plan and the adjustment to the three farms that are owned by the Tribe. The seven Devils farm has been sold to the Oregon Resource Corporation (ORC). It is due to close in February of 2012. The Kilkich and 4 Mile farm are being evaluated for their long term disposition for the future. The Tribe decided to bring in a contract manager for this year’s crop. The manger is responsible for all three farms and all their incumbent expenses. The contract allows all their expenses to be paid from the sale of the crop and profit (if any) will be shared between the manager and the Tribe.
