Social Service Programs

Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) case management:  Community Health Center (CHC) staff, along with a representative from the Tribe’s Legal Department, represent the Tribe’s interest in Child Welfare cases involving Tribal Children.  CHC staff work with the designated agency and other legal parties to the case to assure the Tribal child(ren) are placed in a culturally appropriate placement and that the parents are receiving the required services to regain custody of their children.

Child Care Assistance Program (FCS):  A reimbursement program for Tribal Families that can assist with financial costs associated with child-care services for Tribal families that reside in the five county service area that are income eligible.  The program uses a sliding fee scale based on income to determine the percentage of child-care costs the Tribe will pay for.  Parents who are eligible based on income to receive child-care assistance from State-run programs must first apply to these programs in order to be eligible for the Tribe’s program. 

Baby Equipment Program (FCS):  Provides high-quality baby equipment to the parents of a new Tribal Member.  The equipment includes cribs, highchairs, car-seats and booster seats.

Coats Program (FCS):  Provides winter coats for all Tribal children. 

0-3 Parents As Teachers Program:  The program is designed to offer developmental information and support to all parents of children 0-3 years of age.  The program uses developmentally appropriate books, toys and learning tools for the children and parents.

Emergency Fund:  Provides emergency financial assistance for situations where a family will suffer from lack of housing, heat, food or other life necessities.  Requests are reviewed by a Coquille Indian Tribal Council appointed committee.  Funds are limited to $500 per Tribal household and can be accessed once every five years.  The program is available to Tribal members, non-Tribal parents of a Tribal Member, Foster parents, or other guardians of a Tribal member.

Elders Programs

Congregate Meals:  A community lunch or dinner sponsored by the State Title VI program.  A presentation of interest is scheduled for every meal.

Frozen Meal Program (FCS):  Frozen, prepared meals are available to Tribal Elders and Spouses aged 55 years or older.  Every participant receives a set number of frozen meals every month.

Chore Services:  The program reimburses Tribal Elders for chores they need.

Respite Care:  Assists Elders who are providing care-giving to a spouse or relative.

Supportive Services:  Provides Elders and/or Spouses who are diagnosed with a disability access to equipment like grab bars, lift chairs and/or minor home improvements.

Elders Activities/Trips:  Tribal sponsored activities for all Tribal Members aged 55 yrs and older and their spouses. The activities include day and weekend trips.

Information and referral:  Resources are made available for Elders in need of caregivers, training on care-giving, finances, health needs and elder abuse.

Elder Care Reimbursement Program: A reimbursement program that will assist eligible Elders in need of a caregiver as prescribed by a physician.

CHR Programs

Case Management:  Many different tasks and services, including outreach activities, home visits, health promotion activities and advocating for Tribal Member clients with other agencies. The CHR also supports the Elders program.
